IDLO is a Ukrainian brand that inspires adventure and freedom. Their freeze-dried meals are made for those who find joy in nature — on mountain trails, rivers, and roads.

The IDLO team reached out to us to reimagine their packaging — to make it bright, recognizable, and full of life. A design that people would want to look at, hold, and take with them on every journey.

KEY CHALLENGES: 
Create a bold, instantly recognizable design that reflects both nature and modernity. 
Simplify navigation through a wide range of flavors and meal types. 
Preserve the core brand identity while giving it a fresh, emotional expression. 
- Develop a flexible packaging system that supports quick updates without raising production costs.


KEY DESIGN SOLUTIONS:

- Visual Categorization System: Meals were divided into four groups — breakfasts, first courses, main dishes, and snacks — each with its own color palette inspired by the four seasons. Warm tones for energetic mornings, rich ones for hearty meals, and cool hues for light snacks.
- Identity Evolution: Signature mountain and forest illustrations were kept but enhanced with dynamic icons of outdoor activities — ski touring, rafting, trekking, mountain biking — bringing the sense of motion and adventure.
- Flexible Customization: Instead of reprinting each variation, a sticker-based system for front and back labeling allowed fast, low-cost product updates.
- User-Friendly: A water-fill line inside the pouch became a small but loved feature — showing care for real outdoor needs.


RESULTS FOR THE CLIENT: 

- Category Leader: After the redesign, IDLO became the #1 freeze-dried food brand in Ukraine — confirmed by strong demand and loyal community feedback.
- International Recognition: The brand received the ISPO Award, becoming the first Ukrainian company ever honored with it — a milestone for both IDLO and Ukrainian design.
- Significant Sales Growth: Clear color navigation and category logic helped consumers choose faster and with more confidence, driving noticeable sales growth.
- Distinct Visual Identity: The new packaging became IDLO’s key visual signature — bright, recognizable, and enjoyable to look at.
- Emotional Connection: Hikers began sharing photos with IDLO meals in the mountains — the brand turned into a symbol of modern Ukrainian outdoor culture.
